2015 Dalbello Krypton2 Lotus

The Krypton series from Dalbello continues to send shock waves through the ski boot world.  There is no other boot that offers the exceptional performance, and the ultra adjustability you will find in Krypton.  The heart of Krypton design is Dalbello's 3 piece shell design.  Although 3 piece boots have many fit and performance advantages, there are three main features that separate it from other boots -

(1) The forward flex and lateral stiffness are separated.  It is possible to have a boot that flexes softer forward, and is quite stiff from side to side.
(2) the location of the innovative Dynalink buckle holds the foot down and back in the shell better than any other buckle system on the market.
(3) No other boot design can be customized as completely for you.  Krypton offers adjustable forward flex, forward lean, cant adjustment, cuff height and shock absorption.

Krypton 2 is the all new version of Dalbello's industry leading 3 piece shell designs.  The KR 2 Lotus is one of the best value, best skiing performance boots for women on the market.  Even though it is the least expensive Krypton 2 models for women, it includes all of the best features found in the more expensive models, and packs plenty of performance potential for all but the most expert lady skiers.  If you are looking for the boot that can get you out of the intermediate rut your current boots have you stuck in, Lotus should be at the top of your lest.

Although the performance is a bit more laid back than its sister models (Kryzma and Chakra), the step down is a pretty small one.
The Lotus packs all the same lady specific features of the more expensive models, but is just a little bit softer in flex.  All Krypton 2 lady specific fit features are included; (1) The shell and cuff material is slightly softer, and lighter weight for women because the shells are smaller and lady skiers are lighter. (2) All liners are lasted (shaped) to fit a ladies' leg and foot, with narrower heel areas and more room over the instep. (3) Inner insulation materials are chosen that offer additional warmth properties to keep lady skiers feet extra warm.  Lotus also offers all the impressive customization features Krypton is known for; forward lean and cant angle adjustments, and adjustable forward flex.  It is also adjustable at the top of the cuff for leg size.

The Tru Fit Lady Sport liner in the Lotus is the cushiest and roomiest of the KR models for women.  The TF Lady Sport liner is ready to use right out of the box.  Unlike the custom ID liners offered other KR2 boots, there is NO CUSTOM FITTING  necessary with the TFS liner.  It will mold to the foot over time, but the fit is very stable, and this liner will not pack down as much over time as a lesser, lower performance liner.  Check out the performance features of the Krypton 2 Lotus:

  • All New Contour 4 shell shape has one of the most anatomical shapes of any boot on the market.  Specific areas of the shell have been expanded to give common problem areas of the foot a bit more room.  This results in a close fitting boot that fits most feet very well, with seldom any need for custom shell work to be done as is common with 98mm shell shapes.
  • Three piece Cabriolet design is the heart of the Krypton design.  Flexing of the boot is controlled by the resistance of the Kinetic Response tongue on the outside of the shell, and this is the third shell piece of the three piece Cabriolet concept.  As the boot flexes, the shell does not distort, and heel hold down does not change with the position of the upper cuff.  Flex is very progressive as the ribs of the tongue load up with energy, and ski rebound is increased because the "spring like" tongue stores energy.  The progressive flex is very smooth, allowing the skiers legs to absorb energy transmitted from the snow.  The skier feels lighter on her feet, and is able to make more, quicker turns with the Cabriolet design.
  • Power Cuff with low hinge point The upper cuff is connected much lower to the shell, allowing more natural fore and aft movements of the leg.  Both hinge points are adjustable up and down to allow maximum adjustment of side to side angle (see cant below).  This design matches the hinge points of the shell with the hinge points of the ankle.  Movement of the boot mimics the natural movement of the ankle joint inside it.
  • Dynalink center buckle is positioned perfectly to pull the outside tongue down over the instep area of the boot.  No other design is able to lock the foot down and back in the boot with so little buckle tension; this is bio-mechanical design at its best.  Fit around the upper leg and the foot area can be adjusted independently of the instep area.  So, even though there is one less buckle, there is one additional area of the boot that can be adjusted when compared to a 2 piece overlap design.
  • Upward Pivoting tongue easy entry design.  Because the tongue is a separate piece, it can swing up for easy entry into the boot.
  • Adjustable forward lean angle - Use the included forward lean shims to set the forward angle to one of three positions.  Unlike other boots with forward lean adjustment, the flex of the boot is not affected when the angle is increased on the Krypton.
  • Adjustable forward flex - Included Flex Bridges can be installed in the rear spine of the lower shell to adjust the forward flex to 9 different settings.  Dalbello's flex rating on this boot is 85 to 105, a change of 25% !!  No other boot on the market comes close to that huge range of flex adjustment.  This is the softest boot available in the Krypton series for women, but can be stiffend an amazing amount with flex bridges installed.  And, it is undoubtedly one of the stiffest boots side to side that money can buy.  Soft forward flex, with a stiff lateral flex is the "holy grail" of ski boot design.
  • Adjustable height spoiler to accommodate different length and sizes of legs.  Up, down, or remove it entirely to customize the upper shaft of the boot
  • Aluminum micro adjustable buckles are super tough, very precise, and can be micro adjusted to provide exactly the necessary amount of tension in the 3 fit zones of this boot.
  • Dual canting adjustment (side to side angle) for maximum ability to get your boot adjusted flat to the snow.  Because the hinge points are lower on the shell, this cant adjustment offers a wider range than traditional two piece designs.  Even if you require 3 degrees of canting either in or out, this boot can work for you.

How does the Krypton 2 Lotus fit?  The overall shape of the boot fits medium to slightly lower volume feet, and is definitely roomier than original Krypton models.  Width is average, the toe box is roomier in this new model and the heel pocket is nice and snug.  The instep is slightly lower than many overlap boots, and the upper cuff is tall (shorter if the spoiler is removed) and snug.  If you have very wide feet, or very large calves, this might not be the best choice for you.  (Check out the Dalbello Kyra models instead).  If you are looking for a super cushy, roomy boot, Kyra will be a better choice for you than Krypton.
